Alexandra Navratil´s work examines historical and political concepts of perception and their correlations with systems of representations in cinema, architecture and politics. Her works in various media such as photography, collage and video, are deliberate constructions, which attempt to undermine the authority of the image by questioning the means and mechanisms of its production and the codes of its representation. These underlying structures are made visible within the works.
Alexandra Navratil (Zürich, Switzerland, 1978), lives and works in Zurich and Amsterdam, graduated with an MFA from Goldsmiths College in London in 2007. She has been awarded prizes such as the Manor Prize Zurich (2012) the Swiss Art Award (2012 and 2009) and the Prix Mobiliere Young Art (2009). Artist-in-residency programs include ISCP New York (2010) and IMMA Dublin (2009). Her work has been included in group exhibitions at the ICA Philadelphia, Formcontent, London and MUSAC, León amongst others. She will present her newest works in individual shows at the Kunstmuseum Winterthur (2013) and the SMBA Amsterdam (2014).
