Welcome to AIR Berlin Alexanderplatz, a research-focused, artist-run initiative that seeks to foster community, creativity and dialogue within the constantly evolving environment of Berlin’s art scene. ABA itself is an organism that thrives on the communication of new ideas. Whether you are joining us as a researcher-in-residence, as an attendee of our frequently held salons, or as a reader of one of the many publications produced by residents in the course of their ABA stay, your attention is already a contribution to the development of ABA as a safe, cooperative space where artists, curators, designers, theorists—and anyone who is interested—can come together in support of each other’s endeavours. …

Goeun Bae  (ROK/NL)

Goeun Bae’s work discloses a personal story that reflects the vulnerable and unstable position of women in today’s society. Bae’s works become the voice that unveils and challenges the often hidden violence and oppression inflicted upon women. By using the body, she expands the affective reasoning that is tied inside of her and eliminate the bounds of limitations. she practices them through behaviors of self-torture, repetition, and pressure, which remain as a series of processes with unpredictable outcome. And they are realized in film, object, performance, and photography.

Selina Grüter and Michèle Graf (CH)

Since 2011 Selina Grüter (1991) and Michèle Graf (1987) are working together as a collective. Their work uses complex arrangements of actors, texts and compositional strategies to build, develop and explore the tensions between individual and group, and singular and plural modes of being. Using found texts, scripts, and drawings, and found materials for e.g. sticks and cords, Grüter and Graf transform their starting points by taking them out of their original context and examining and re-examining them in the light of a new medium. Put into modes of enactment in public spaces, each performance shows the process of transformation of their initial references. Grüter and Grafʼs work particularly deals with questions of the potential for individualism within a provisional group, and their elaborately scripted performances approach these questions using both language and other compositional arrangements.

Johanna Viprey (Besançon, FR)

Johanna Viprey (Besançon, FR) is a French artist, working and living in Geneva. Her works combine installation, writing and performance. In her new project, she develops a research about the artist talk as a medium, and the evolution of its contexts and issues. Her work explores crossing points, the ambiguity of transdisciplinary practices and figures like artist as curator, artist’s as a critic, and diversion of scientific contents or archives.
Over the last two years Viprey has worked on the archives of the American performer painter and documentary filmmaker Jeff Perkins. In her work, performances and installations Viprey do not simply describe his original collection: she narrates an encounter that has led her to investigate the personal history of an artist and his figure from an anthropological perspective (more.. )
