Until the end of September 2017, the visual artist Karen Vermeren continues to be artist in residence at ABA. As a provisional conclusion of her research in Berlin (a publication will follow), she is organising a Salon at Kalksteinbruch Rüdersdorf, not far from Berlin. In her work, Vermeren links the city of Berlin, in which the limestone from the mine – transformed in cement and concrete – appears in new patterns and constellations. The salon contains a guided tour of the limestone mine and is followed by a talk and discussion. A shuttle service to Rüdersdorf from Berlin is provided. Please sign up for it via firstname.lastname@example.org
Karen Vermeren is a researcher at Sint Lucas University College of Art & Design in Antwerp. In her work, she points out her preference for mountains, cratered landscapes and tectonic plate movements. She draws and paints images that seemingly battle how geological structures and multilayered natural formations can be transmitted onto two dimensional, sometimes transparent surfaces. From June until September 2017, she is artist in residence at Air Berlin Alexanderplatz.
