Susanne Kriemann The Library/TheQuarry
Held in the Pierre Kemp Lab of the Jan Van Eyck Academie Maastricht
Van Eyck advisor and artist Susanne Kriemann starts a new series of Book Salons in collaboration with Annet Perry, librarian of the Pierre Kemp Lab and Jo Frenken, head of the Charles Nypels Lab of the academy. For the upcoming Book Salon they will choose some of thei preferred publications produced at the Jan van Eyck Academie.
Van Eyck participants and interested parties are welcome to join the Book Salons.
The library of the Van Eyck has a wonderful collection of books, not only the current artists catalogues and important contemporary writings, but also older, radically designed publications, which are not evident to look into during daily research routine. Some of these are icons of modern (Dutch) design and printmaking, as for example Wim Crouwel’s Stedelijk Museum publications or the Rosbeek library.
The Library / The Query is based on the format of the salon, a (small) crowd of connoisseurs joins in to meet and discuss and present books in the library. Each salon’s theme circulates around a theme linked to the collection of the library of the Van Eyck. The core subject is researching, digging into archives and libraries, not only as part of many artists’ practices but also as an urgency to discuss and to create awareness of the different formal and content related issues.
With these evenings we shall engage to challenge the format of presentations. ‘No one consumes, everyone contributes…’. We work on radical propositions towards ‘presentation’, ‘reading’, and ‘performing’. ‘The Library/ The Query‘ would like to invite you to (actively) participate in these evenings, suggest books, bring books and share your knowledge and thoughts.
The first book salon will take place on 10th of June, 15.30 – 17.30h.
